A class III cultural resources inventory was accomplished for two small borrow areas in the S 1/2 of SE 1/4 section 5, T.157-N-R84W, within the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge. The surveyed areas encompass about 10 acres on the valley wall slopes of the Souris River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District proposes to remove fill material from these areas. The Souris River Basin Project in North Dakota is a flood control project to protect both urban and rural reaches of the Souris River. This report is a cultural resources inventory for a series of initial borrow areas, sand, gravel sources selected for use in connection with the mitigation of project impacts to farmsteads and rural residences in McHenry County.
