Make Your Own, Amazing Moving Art! Have you ever wanted to create your own moving-part toy or mechanism but weren’t sure where to start? Now you can easily build fascinating kinetic structures and simple machines with this do-it-yourself guide to making art in motion. Master craftsman Rodney Frost shares his wealth of knowledge with clear explanations and easy-to-follow instructions, building from simple to more complex projects to help you quickly absorb the lessons and build your skills. Frost keeps the concepts relatable, the materials accessible, and the projects doable. Simple illustrations help explain how basic mechanisms work, including cams, cranks, levers, pulleys, gears, and flywheels. In the skill-building simple projects, Frost suggests making the models with inexpensive household items, such as cardboard and string, before beginning construction with wood. Although the book consists primarily of projects for beginners and those with a desire to learn the basics of mechanical constructions, the much-beloved Creative Kinetics has nevertheless become a valued resource for hobbyists of all ages and experience levels. The simplified projects explained here provide excellent opportunities to learn the fundamental components and functions of more complicated creations, making this book a helpful and inspiring springboard for exploration of more advanced artwork and sculptures.

This book addresses research challenges in the rapidly developing area of nonequilibrium thermodynamics and fluctuation kinetics. This cross-disciplinary field comprises various topics, ranging from fundamental problems of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics and thermodynamics to multiple applications in plasma, fluid mechanics, nonlinear science, systems of dissipative particles, and high-Q resonators. The purpose of this book is to bring together world-leading experts in the above fields to initiate a cross-fertilization among these active research areas. The book is dedicated to and honours the memory of Professor Slava Belyi who passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2020. He was pioneering the theory of nonequilibrium fluctuations, in particular the application of the Callen-Welton fluctuation-dissipation theorem to nonequilibrium systems and its generalization. This and related problems also feature in the book.

This book covers all basic topics of reaction kinetics, thus students do not need to refer to other resources to prepare for an undergraduate exam. It leads the reader into the topic starting from molecular level concepts and working towards the more macroscopic descriptions of kinetics, introducing the subject according to the state-of-the-art 21st century chemistry. A thorough treatment of formal kinetics of both elementary and complex reactions is based on actual practice, omitting many obsolete treatments of the subject. Mathematical operations are explained in enough detail so that even students that are less trained in calculus can easily follow and understand. Data treatment and statistical inference include modern - mostly numerical - methods widely used in applications. Experimental methods are described using basic technical details, however as techniques quickly change sophisticated devices are not the focus of this book. The emphasis lies on providing the basic concepts which are important for students to understand. This book is suitable as essential reading for courses in bachelor and master chemistry programs and is also valuable as a reference or textbook for students of physics, biochemistry and environmental science.

Leaching is a primary extractive operation in hydrometallurgical processing, by which a metal of interest is transferred from naturally occurring minerals into an aqueous solution. In essence, it involves the selective dissolution of valuable minerals, where the ore, concentrate, or matte is brought into contact with an active chemical solution known as a leach solution. Currently, the hydrometallurgical processes have a great number of applications, not only in the mining sector—in particular, for the recovery of precious metals—but also in the environmental sector, for the recovery of toxic metals from wastes of various types, and their reuse as valuable metals, after purification. Therefore, there is an increasing need to develop novel solutions, to implement environmentally sustainable practices in the recovery of these valuable and precious metals, with particular reference to critical metals; those included in materials that are indispensable to modern life and for which an exponential increase in consumption is already a reality, or will be in a short-term perspective. For publication in this Special Issue, consideration has been given to articles that contribute to the optimization of the kinetic conditions of innovative hydrometallurgical processes—economic and of low environmental impact—applied to the recovery of valuable and critical metals.

"This practical text helps student teachers develop their confidence, understandings and skills so that they can effectively and authentically teach arts in primary and middle school classrooms. Delivering Authentic Arts Education outlines the true nature of arts education and its importance in the curriculum, emphasising the arts as forms of creative activity, meaning-making and expression in a cultural context. Chapters discuss how to recognise and build on your existing artistic abilities and pedagogical skills, how to encourage childrens creativity, how to lead arts appreciation experiences, and the general principles of planning and assessment. They then examine the five arts areas: dance, drama, media arts, music and visual arts. The final part of the text contains sample learning activities and resources that demonstrate how to plan an effective lesson within a unit of inquiry. Practical tips, classroom snapshots, starter ideas and suggestions for online resources show you the links between theory and practice so you can develop arts education experiences that are purposeful, stimulating and engaging for everyone"--Publisher's summary.
