In global development, corruption entangles many societies, most observably in the vulnerable fabric of developing nations. Examining Corruption and the Sustainable Development Goals unravels the layers of this persistent challenge, meticulously examining its pervasive influence on pursuing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This book ventures into the heart of corruption's impacts, spanning economic, social, political, and environmental dimensions. Corruption, manifesting in insidious forms such as bribery, embezzlement, and nepotism, casts a daunting shadow over the integrity of public institutions, eroding public trust crucial for sustainable development initiatives. This book explores case studies, robust theoretical frameworks, and insightful policy perspectives. It is tailored for an audience within the academic research community, scholars, researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners thirsty for an understanding of the complex interplay between corruption and sustainable development in the developing world.

This book sheds light on Africa’s development performance and dynamics arising from the interface between corruption and sustainable development on the one hand and the challenges that poses for peace, security and stability. Corruption also contributes to the spread of terrorism and violent extremism. Pervasive corruption networks often include politicians, civil servants working at all levels of state institutions, representatives of the private sector and members of crime syndicates. The consequences of corruption are detrimental in many aspects, such as undermining governments’ ability to serve public interests and eroding public trust in democratic processes. Presenting empirical evidence, the book explains why corruption and the looting of staggering amounts of national assets undermine the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has a negative impact on peace, stability, security, the rule of law, gender equality, the environment and human rights. This makes the book a must-read for students, researchers and scholars of political science, international relations, and economics in general, as well as African studies, development studies, and security sector studies in particular, covering issues and themes on corruption, governance, socio-economic sustainable development, public administration and management, policing in an international context, police reform, and security sector reform. It will also serve as a helpful resource for policy-makers interested in a better understanding of the connection between corruption, sustainable development, and security challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Many new development initiatives have been introduced in Africa over the past few decades. Each of these has been heralded as marking a new era in the continent‘s development. However, many of these initiatives have failed to produce sustained results due to numerous challenges, including, most importantly, the lack of good governance. The Africa P

Africa is today missing in the technology radar of the world, but very visible in the corruption index. This represents a clear road map to perpetual underdevelopment, subjugation, and perdition. While no country or continent has ever developed without recreating industrial revolution in its own way, African countries, by omission or commission are attempting to develop by embracing corruption and ignoring the revolutionary powers of science and technology. Africa cannot develop without their own well developed science and technology, and cannot develop with the level of corruption in the continent as we know it today. While western nations continue to advise African leaders to stop stealing the AID they send to them, they have never and will never advise them to embrace technology in order to create their own wealth. The author has done a great deal of work exposing the ills of African leaders and their western collaborators which brought Africa to her pitiable state of underdevelopment. Until corruption is greatly minimised in the continent and science and technology embraced; Africa will never achieve sustainable development. No one can do it for Africa except Africans themselves.

This book brings together leading African scholars and researchers from various academic disciplines, cultures, religions, and generations. It examines how to better mobilise and influence the actions, behaviour and attitudes of citizens towards accountability, transparency, and probity, in order to strengthen Africa’s integrity, equity, and sustainable development. It serves to deepen and strategically add to current efforts to combat corruption, and clearly advocates that fighting corruption is the business of everyone. The role of ethics in society and the presence of leaders who ideally should be ethical, effective, and empathic are also important. This volume shows that corruption robs the poor, and will serve to enrich the reader’s philosophy of life.

Seminar paper from the year 2022 in the subject History - Africa, grade: 12+1, Bahir Dar University (Bahir Dar university), course: History, language: English, abstract: Corruption was not a major problem in Africa prior to colonialism. Following independence, African countries inherited severely corrupt institutions and laws. Again, African military leaders who rose to power rejected the colonial era judicial structures and check-and-balance mechanisms. Since independence, political and social institutions such as the courts, police, security services, and the media have been ostensibly anti-corruption. Corruption has harmed Africa's economic, political, and social development. Corruption reduces private investment and current resource productivity, widens income disparities, reduces foreign direct investment, cuts domestic taxes, and increases government spending. On a political level, corruption undermines democracy, damages governmental legitimacy, and tarnishes the continent's good image in the eyes of the outside community. Corruption has a negative impact.
