In this study, we will look at the words convivencia in Spanish (and Catalan), convivance in French (convivencia in Occitan) and "convivence" in English, as well as the concept underlying this term. We will adopt a different approach for each language concerned, as the word has its own specific connotations and evolution in each, thereby demanding a differentiated research and questioning strategy. In this small-scale research project, conducted online, we will also suggest areas of further research and consideration. This is a research topic that certainly merits further development, and the conclusions drawn herein are purely indicative in nature.

Received opinion imagines Judaism and Islam as two distinct religions interacting in the centuries following the death of Muhammad in the early seventh century. Tradition describes the relations between the two groups using such tropes as "symbiosis." In this revisionist work, Aaron W. Hughes instead argues that various porous and marginal groups-neither fully Muslim nor fully Jewish-exploited a shared terminology to make sense of their social worlds in response to the rapid process of Islamicization. What emerged as normative rabbinic Judaism on the one hand, and Sunni and ShiEven the spread of rabbinic Judaism, especially at the hands of Saadya Gaon (882-942 CE), was articulated Islamically. In the so-called "Golden Age" that emerged in places like Muslim Spain and North Africa, this "Islamic" Judaism could still be found in the writings of luminaires such as Bahya ibn Paquda, Abraham ibn Ezra, Judah Halevi, and Moses Maimonides. Drawing on social theory, comparative religion, and the analysis of original sources, Hughes presents a compelling case for rewriting our understanding of Jews and Muslims in their earliest centuries of interaction. Not content to remain solely in the past, Shared Identities examines the continued interaction of Muslims and Jews, now reimagined as Palestinians and Israelis, into the present.

Convivence is a new word in English. Its root comes from the Spanish word “Convivencia”, emerging in the 12th century. During the year 2004, the French Academy included it in its Dictionary (“convivance”). It means a situation where different communities and human groups live together, maintaining neighborliness, harmony, and exchanging relations. The United Nations General Assembly, in its resolution 72/130, declared 16 May of each year, the International Day of Living Together in Peace, (or ‘Convivence’) “as a means of regularly mobilizing the efforts of the international community to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, understanding and solidarity”. This book explores the main issues and needs around convivence at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Our fragmented world is facing vast crises: climate change, migrations, growing inequalities, geopolitical clashes, a rise of nationalism, identity conflicts, and racism. The objective is to show that the pursuit of Convivence can be a driving ethical issue of tomorrow. Projected situations will be described in a series of scenarios, explaining what paths should be taken to make this aspiration for peace possible, for solidarity beyond coexistence and conviviality. This thought-provoking book will be of interest to researchers and students in Peace Studies, Sociology and International Relations, as well as those working in community issues in governments, NGOs and the private sector.

This book addresses the topic of Europe’s youth generation, paying particular attention to the ways in which the film depicts the transition from adolescence to adulthood as allegory for the experiences of European society as it moves through periods of readjustment towards uncertain futures. It also looks into the ecosystem of contemporary French cinema, the Erasmus programme and its influence on youth experience, and identity politics in relation to ‘nationhood’ and ‘European-ness’. The book also examines the two sequels to the film – Russian Dolls (2005) and Chinese Puzzle (2013) – and how the complications faced by the main characters across the trilogy suggest that the move to adulthood is a never-ending process of growing up and reaching a level of self-actualization.

Discussions of street culture exist in a variety of academic disciplines, yet a handbook that brings together the diversity of scholarship on this subject has yet to be produced. The Routledge Handbook of Street Culture integrates and reviews current scholarship regarding the history, types, and contexts of the concept of street culture. It is comprehensive and international in its treatment of the subject of street culture. Street culture includes many subtypes, situations, locations, and participants, and these are explored in the various chapters included in this book. Street culture varies based on numerous factors including capitalism, market societies, policing, ethnicity, and race but also advances in technology. The book is divided into four major sections: Actors and street culture, Activities connected to street culture, The centrality of crime to street culture, and Representations of street culture. Contributors are well respected and recognized international scholars in their fields. They draw upon contemporary scholarship produced in the social sciences, arts, and humanities in order to communicate their understanding of street culture. The book provides a comprehensive and accessible approach to the subject of street culture through the lens of an inter- and/or multidisciplinary perspective. It is also intersectional in its approach and consideration of the subject and phenomenon of street culture.

This book analyses how global transactions have been progressively conducted and negotiated in the last 25 years. Achieving a new understanding of sustainability transition in the Anthropocene requires a deeper analysis on culture. The development of new positions of international institutions, national governments, scientific organizations, private fora and civil society movements on culture and nature shows how global transactions must take place in a rapidly transforming world. In her book the author provides a multi-situated ethnography of live debates on culture, global environmental change, development and diversity directly recorded by the author as a participating and decision-making anthropologist from 1988 to 2016. She examines the politicization and internationalization of culture by recognizing, negotiating and diversifying views on cultures and re-thinking culture in the Anthropocene. The merging of science and policy in taking up cultural and natural challenges in the Anthropocene is discussed.
