L'apprentissage dans l’enseignement obligatoire n’est pas un long fleuve tranquille. Sous l’apparente continuité du curriculum se cachent des ruptures au niveau des contenus disciplinaires. C’est le constat que des enseignants formateurs – dans différentes disciplines: français, mathématiques, sciences, langues modernes, histoire et éducation physique – et à différents niveaux de formation – du préscolaire à l’université – ont pu faire lorsqu’ils se sont réunis lors d’une journée d’études du Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire sur les pratiques enseignantes et les disciplines scolaires. L’objet de la réflexion était d’étudier la manière selon laquelle un concept particulier ou une compétence – par exemple le concept de l’égalité en mathématique ou la compétence de lecture en français – pouvait voyager et être enseigné tout au long de la scolarité. Les analyses effectuées dans les diverses disciplines révèlent que la progression curriculaire que certains imaginaient continue présente régulièrement des tensions, voire des ruptures. L’apprentissage longitudinal d’un concept ou d’une compétence s’avère souvent lacunaire, et dès lors difficile pour les élèves. Au départ de ce constat, les équipes de formateurs impliquées dans ce projet proposent des pistes d’action très concrètes, qui invitent leurs étudiants, futurs enseignants, à travailler de manière davantage conjointe et à se forger une image plus construite du savoir à enseigner.

This book, the outcome of a conference organised in 2012 in Paris as a homage to Michèle Artigue, is based on the main component of this event. However, it offers more than a mere reflection of the conference in itself, as various well-known researchers from the field have been invited to summarize the main topics where the importance of Artigue’s contribution is unquestionable. Her multiple interest areas, as a researcher involved in a wider community, give to this volume its unique flavour of diversity. Michèle Artigue (ICMI 2013 Felix Klein Award, CIAEM 2015 Luis Santaló Award) is without doubt one of the most influential researchers nowadays in the field of didactics of mathematics. This influence rests both on the quality of her research and on her constant contribution, since the early 1970s, to the development of the teaching and learning of mathematics. Observing her exemplary professional history, one can witness the emergence, the development, and the main issues of didactics of mathematics as a specific research field.

This comprehensive scientific work embraces, within the generic theme of "educations, territorialities and territories", the vast majority of different facets of the complex relationships between educations and territories that have developed over time. It sheds an original light on the many - and, for some, new - interactions between territories-territories, on the one hand, and educations, on the other hand, which have recently been identified and analyzed. Beyond this main objective, it contributes to improving the fine and differentiated understanding of the concept of territory in the sciences of education and training and, more importantly, it brings innovative developments to the still embryonic theorization of the complex relations between educations. and territories-territorialities. This book shows, in particular, through its surveys, its analyzes and its results, that within all the multiple influences attributed to the different dimensions of the territories, the very discrete territoriality - falling within the symbolic territory - is perhaps finally the the most important territorial vector in terms of education in certain areas (rural Montagnards, for example), particularly as regards educational and vocational guidance, but not only. Lastly, it is not uninteresting to note that the theme it bears is spreading more and more today beyond scientific circles: the problem of inequalities in education and orientation of territorial origin is fueling - recently - the controversies and the reflections of the French educational policy which is thus sometimes echoed - in declarative terms essentially for the moment! - scientific advances in this area

The sciences are, in essence, highly semiotized. Our ways of thinking and communicating about science are based on permanent transformations from one system of signs to another, such as scriptural, graphic, symbolic, oral and gestural signs.
