The global economy is undergoing profound shifts, powered by technological advancements and financial innovations, reshaping the role of finance in ways we've never seen before. As these forces reshape the world of finance, it becomes increasingly essential for academic scholars, practitioners, and future finance professionals to stay ahead of the curve, understanding the latest developments and trends. The problem is that finance education and practice often struggle to keep pace with these transformative changes. Standard textbooks and curricula tend to lag behind advancements in the field, leaving aspiring accountants and finance practitioners ill-prepared to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the modern financial world. Additionally, there is a gap between academic research and practical applications, making it difficult for scholars to bridge the divide and offer real-world solutions. Contemporary Research and Practices for Promoting Financial Literacy and Sustainability presents a comprehensive solution to these challenges. It serves as a beacon of knowledge, bringing together classical finance topics and the latest developments, ensuring that future accountants and finance professionals are equipped with the knowledge necessary to navigate the reshaped financial landscape. By integrating contemporary research into finance teaching, this book bridges the gap between theory and practice, offering innate insights into theoretical concepts and their practical applications.

In a world where individuals become increasingly responsible for their financial well-being, and where the complexity of financial markets and products is growing, financial education becomes crucial. Although it is well accepted to introduce financial education in compulsory education, there is no consensus on the optimal way to implement financial education. This book explores the current state and the future challenges of financial education in five European countries: Belgium, Estonia, Italy, Slovakia, and the Netherlands. Moreover, it provides a comprehensive review of the academic literature on financial literacy. The book is a product of a strategic partnership with professionals from 14 partners, including universities, secondary schools and intermediary organisations dealing with financial literacy promotion. The EUFin project supported by this partnership aims to develop evidence-based didactical material for financial literacy education for tertiary and secondary education levels and exchange best-practices.

This article examines national (US) educational financial literacy standards through the lens of sustainability and intergenerational responsibility. Linking financial literacy standards to important sustainability issues like the Bruntland Report, the American Indian seventh generation concept, and future ethics, the article recommends the addition of specific ethical, social, and environmental standards to current financial literacy standards. The example of water is used to illustrate the connection between sustainability and financial literacy, and implications for current educators are discussed.
