Este libro propone una reflexión sobre el papel que desempeñan las lenguas extranjeras en la formación cultural de las personas, atendiendo especialmente al contexto actual de España. Se trata especialmente el multilingüismo, un reto determinante en el nuevo contexto europeo y un gran desafío pedagógico. El libro aborda tanto el marco histórico y cultural como la metodología educativa que mejor puede facilitar su correcta materialización, poniendo especial énfasis en la enseñanza integrada de lengua y contenidos. Se atiende de manera predominante la lengua inglesa, su pasado, presente y futuro como lengua internacional y se discute el papel de lenguas emergentes en un plano global, analizando la presencia cultural y educativa del alemán en España.

The spread, functions and models of the New Englishes have become a dominant theme of the eighties. This volume addresses, specifically, the English used in Singapore in the private and public domains, particularly the school system. The topics covered include: an overview of earlier studies and attempts at codification; a consideration of whether the formal mode of written Singapore English should be standardised; the problems of pronounciation; etc. and specific lexico-grammatical problems which have proved to be ambiguous for those not familiar with Singapore English. This volume explores the current position of CLIL on the three main fronts where it is attracting particular attention in specialized literature, namely, implementation, research, and teacher training. To this end, it presents evidence from national and international research projects, governmentally-financed pedagogical initiatives, grassroots experiences and investigations, and inter-institutional training programs which offer insights into how CLIL is working in action on the afore-mentioned three levels. This volume – the first-ever collection of research on healthcare interpreting – centers on three interrelated themes: cross-cultural communication in healthcare settings, the interactional role of persons serving as interpreters and the discourse patterns of interpreter-mediated interaction.
