International Association for Statistical Computing The International Association for Statistical Computing (IASC) is a Section of the International Statistical Institute. The objectives of the Association are to foster world-wide interest in e?ective statistical computing and to - change technical knowledge through international contacts and meetings - tween statisticians, computing professionals, organizations, institutions, g- ernments and the general public. The IASC organises its own Conferences, IASC World Conferences, and COMPSTAT in Europe. The 17th Conference of ERS-IASC, the biennial meeting of European - gional Section of the IASC was held in Rome August 28 - September 1, 2006. This conference took place in Rome exactly 20 years after the 7th COMP- STAT symposium which was held in Rome, in 1986. The LNCS journal Transactions on Computational Science reflects recent developments in the field of Computational Science, conceiving the field not as a mere ancillary science but rather as an innovative approach supporting many other scientific disciplines. The journal focuses on original high-quality research in the realm of computational science in parallel and distributed environments, encompassing the facilitating theoretical foundations and the applications of large-scale computations and massive data processing. It addresses researchers and practitioners in areas ranging from aerospace to biochemistry, from electronics to geosciences, from mathematics to software architecture, presenting verifiable computational methods, findings, and solutions, and enabling industrial users to apply techniques of leading-edge, large-scale, high performance computational methods. This, the 36th issue of the Transactions on Computational Science, is devoted to the area of Cyberworlds and Cybersecurity. The first four papers constitute extended versions of selected papers presented at the 2018 International Conference on Cyberworlds, CW 2018. A further two papers were accepted following an open Call for Papers and cover the areas of fast 3D segmentation using geometric surface features and nature-inspired optimization for face recognition.

Statistical computing provides the link between the statistical theory and applied statistics. As at previous COMPSTATs, the scientific programme covered all aspects of this link, from the development and implementation of new statistical ideas through to user experiences and software evaluation. Following extensive discussions, a number of changes have been introduced by giving more focus to the individual sessions, involve more people in the planning of sessions, and make links with other societies as Interface of International Federation of Classification Societies involved in statistical computing. The proceedings should appeal to anyone working in statistics and using computers, whether in universities, industrial companies, government agencies, research institutes or as software developers.

The present book includes a set of selected extended papers from the second International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence (IJCCI 2010), held in Valencia, Spain, from 24 to 26 October 2010. The conference was composed by three co-located conferences: The International Conference on Fuzzy Computation (ICFC), the International Conference on Evolutionary Computation (ICEC), and the International Conference on Neural Computation (ICNC). Recent progresses in scientific developments and applications in these three areas are reported in this book. IJCCI received 236 submissions, from 49 countries, in all continents. After a double blind paper review performed by the Program Committee, only 30 submissions were accepted as full papers and thus selected for oral presentation, leading to a full paper acceptance ratio of 13%. Additional papers were accepted as short papers and posters. A further selection was made after the Conference, based also on the assessment of presentation quality and audience interest, so that this book includes the extended and revised versions of the very best papers of IJCCI 2010. Commitment to high quality standards is a major concern of IJCCI that will be maintained in the next editions, considering not only the stringent paper acceptance ratios but also the quality of the program committee, keynote lectures, participation level and logistics.

Visualizing the data is an essential part of any data analysis. Modern computing developments have led to big improvements in graphic capabilities and there are many new possibilities for data displays. This book gives an overview of modern data visualization methods, both in theory and practice. It details modern graphical tools such as mosaic plots, parallel coordinate plots, and linked views. Coverage also examines graphical methodology for particular areas of statistics, for example Bayesian analysis, genomic data and cluster analysis, as well software for graphics.

The volume is dedicated to Boris Mirkin on the occasion of his 70th birthday. In addition to his startling PhD results in abstract automata theory, Mirkin’s ground breaking contributions in various fields of decision making and data analysis have marked the fourth quarter of the 20th century and beyond. Mirkin has done pioneering work in group choice, clustering, data mining and knowledge discovery aimed at finding and describing non-trivial or hidden structures—first of all, clusters, orderings and hierarchies—in multivariate and/or network data. This volume contains a collection of papers reflecting recent developments rooted in Mirkin’s fundamental contribution to the state-of-the-art in group choice, ordering, clustering, data mining and knowledge discovery.
