Ce livre de vulgarisation et de promotion de la gouvernance définit le concept de gouvernance, explique en quoi il est nécessaire de réduire le déficit de gouvernance en Afrique. Il présente les différents indicateurs de la gouvernance publique utilisés dans le monde et s'intéresse particulièrement aux indicateurs et codes de gouvernance d'entreprise.

Cet ouvrage est une contribution à la compréhension et à la pratique du "vivre ensemble" et de "gérer ensemble" en toute transparence. Les mutations de la société contemporaine, les crises qui ébranlent les certitudes et les acquis, l'émergence de nouveaux acteurs qui exigent d'être pris en compte dans la gestion des affaires qui les concernent, sont autant de motifs qui imposent que le concept de gouvernance soit revisité en permanence.

In these constantly challenging times, business practices that were once considered successful, applicable and rewarding are questioned by the implications of increased globalization. National, regional and international market crises have raised the barriers for a necessary implementation of practices related, but not limited, to ethics and governance. In this spirit, this book tackles a potential and desirable way of reinventing and implementing specific types of governance (both at the private and public levels), in order to reorient the current globalization process in a safer and much more efficient way. It is grounded mainly in three disciplines: the first is the economic sciences, given the book’s concern with microeconomic regulation and economic regulation. The second, the business sciences field, allows for the discussion of strategies of relocalization of businesses, social governance and its impact on organizations, the management of information, and disclosure. The final area of study detailed in the book is the political and administrative field, as it sheds light on the public dimension of governance in the educational sector. This work aims to present the most recent developments regarding territorial governance, placing particular emphasis on rural and periurban areas. The reader will find information on the processes of development of European regions, as well as on the behaviours and strategies adopted by the different actors who live in these territories and contribute to the latter's livelihood. The first part of the book analyses the structural changes in the modes of production that have affected these territories. The second part addresses the questions of methodology and of the structures of governance of local development in rural areas. The last section makes an assessment of the geographical indications as tools of governance of local agrifood chains. The book was written by economists, geographers, land use planners and specialists of the questions of governance and management of rural and periurban areas.

This volume continues the inquiry launched by the Royal Society of Canada's 1997 publication, "Can Canada Survive? Under What Terms and Conditions?", and pursued in the 1998 volume, "The Well-Being of Canada", and the 1999 volume "Survivability in the 21st Century" (all published by the University of Toronto Press). The present collection examines the challenges of governance in our new century. Eight papers, given by experts in their respective fields, call for an examination of the governance of organizations per se, whether one probes the crises in the experience of large corporations, in education, in health care, in science and technology systems, or in military affairs.
