Marked copy. Possibly written in the hand of Henry Knox. Encloses a letter from General [Henry] Knox regarding the inheritance of Beaumez's children of lands in the Waldo patent (not present). Discusses possible difficulties in arranging the inheritance and considers various options.

Signature was clipped, but handwriting suggests the author is Sarah Lyons Flucker Beaumez, Knox's sister-in-law. Was unable to forward the power of attorney to Knox via Mr. [Christopher] Gore, who returned to Boston earlier than she expected. Discusses her children's inheritance of a portion of the Waldo patent lands. Mentions that she would like Mr. [Christopher] Gore, Colonel [Jeremiah] Wadsworth, and her husband Mr. Beaumez to act as trustees. Touches on family gossip. Sends her love to Knox, his wife, and their children, Lucy, Julia, Washington and Caroline.

Wishes he could give her a precise idea of the estate, of our late mother in this Country [Hannah Waldo Flucker] one half of which belongs to your children. Notes that the land is not yet divided and its boundaries have to be verified by the state of Massachusetts. Hopes to be able to devote the next three months to settling the respective boundaries and legal intricacies of the Muscongus or Waldo patent for the Waldo heirs. Notes that sale of the Falmouth estate lands should be postponed until a higher price can be obtained. Reports that the lands of her father-in-law, Thomas Flucker, were confiscated by Massachusetts (many Loyalist lands were confiscated after the Revolutionary War). Notes that Hannah Waldo's lands were held by her and were not transferred to Thomas; this land consisted of the fifth part of Samuel Waldo's Muscongus [Waldo] Patent, and was not confiscated. Complains that trespassers on the Waldo patent are so numerous and so powerful that they cannot be ejected. Comments that her family had previously overestimated the worth of their inherited lands. Promises to make every exertion possible on behalf of her and her fatherless children to obtain their proper inheritance. Location inferred.

Thanks Knox for previous correspondence, and for being the caretaker of her children while they are in America. Discusses land in American inherited from her parents, Hannah and Thomas Flucker. Remarks that a great part of money from the inheritance will go toward Mrs. Harwood, Mrs. Knox and the rest of our Fathers Creditors in England. Hopes Knox will put her inheritance money toward the proper education of her children. Would prefer educating them in the Church, Law, or Physick as opposed to sending them to join the army, though she has army and navy friends who could assist their advancement. Comments that Harriett, possibly her daughter, looks forward to the prospect of going to America to marry Henry's son, also named Henry. Harriet sends one of her flowing locks to Henry, Jr.

Informs Flucker, possibly Sarah Lyons Flucker, of the well-being of Lucy and the Knox children (the Fluckers were Loyalists and left America at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War). Expresses his wish for a reunion between Lucy and her family. Requests documents related to an estate, likely the Waldo estate, of which Lucy was partially entitled to inherit as the granddaughter of General Samuel Waldo. Requests Flucker to give him power of attorney in matters related to the estate, noting that she may be able to recover her segment for her sole use. Instructs Flucker to send the papers with his brother William. Bottom right corner slightly brunt. Docket notes that this letter was sent by the care of Mr. John Appleton.

Regrets living so far from her dearest friends. Writes at length about her hopes that Knox will make good on his promise and help take care of her and her children. Has spoken to several friends on the subject, including General [David] Cobb, and they support her asking for Knox's help achieving justice for her children. Also discusses paying a debt she owes Knox.

Mentions the surprise of the arrival of her son Francis, and declares that it shocked her nerves and caused her to be unable to write to Knox. Thanks him for his friendship. Explains how Major [Samuel] Shaw helped escort her sons on board a ship that is taking them to school, apparently with General [Benjamin] Lincoln. Encloses some business paperwork (not present) sent to her by Mrs. Knox and includes information from General [Henry] Jackson about the paperwork.
