This book studies the impact of China's outward foreign direct investment on the world economy. It uses both case studies and modeling approaches to study how China's investments have affected the rest of the world.

China has become such an important element of the global economy that its influence cannot be ignored in almost any field of endeavour. The phenomenal impact of FDI in China and its (largely trade-related) consequences has been well documented and now there is a significant literature on the phenomenon of outward investment from China too. This book is an in depth study of the international business relationships of China covering both inward and outward foreign direct investment, its impact and related theoretical and policy issues. Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, Xiamen University, language: English, abstract: Foreign direct investment (FDI) is one of the economic growth stimulus due to its associated variables such as capital investment, technical know-how, knowledge transfer and managerial competence required for economic growth. In the last decade, China has emerged on the international financial scene as both financier and investment partner to African economies. Many African economies such as the oil producing and exporting ones have witnessed streams of China’s FDI in their economies whereas non-oil exporting ones have accessed some of China’s FDI in selective sectors. This paper aims at investigating the relationship between China’s FDI and economic growth in Ghana measured by real average annual domestic product (GDP) per capita growth for the period 2001-2010. By using ordinary least squares (OLS) regression model, the result indicates that China’s FDI has negative significant effect on Ghana’s economic growth. However, it exerts different effects on value added in the three economic sectors.

This book focuses on China's fast-growing outward foreign direct investment (ODI) and discusses the underlying causes and profound effects of Chinese enterprises’ “going global.” The book includes eight chapters to analyze the basic characteristics of China's ODI manufacturing enterprises, examine the relationship between enterprise productivity and ODI, investigate the differences between state-owned enterprises and private enterprises in factor market, enterprise ownership and investment, analyze the overall effect of the foreign direct investment (FDI) and thereby the China–US bilateral investment treaties (BIT) on Chinese manufacturing sector in terms of productivity and profitability of the firms. The last chapter provides an overview of China’s three stages of economic reform and opening-up policy in the past four decades, and analyzes the reasons for China’s realization of the splendid economic achievements within such a short time and the main driving forces of China’s incremental international trade in different stages, and discusses the future tasks that would promote the country into a new stage of all-round opening-up.
