Dr. Klein has recorded tombstone inscriptions from eighty family cemeteries, twenty-five church cemeteries, and several small proprietary cemeteries in King George County, Virginia. The result is this enumeration, giving the dates of birth and death and frequently specifying the family relationships of approximately 1,500 persons. The recorded inscriptions are limited, by and large, to persons who either died before 1900 or were born before 1850.

This work features chapters on the early history of King George, prominent men of the county, the courthouse, King George in the various wars, historic homes and other landmarks, etc. Of greatest interest to genealogists is a collection of King George County marriage records culled from a variety of sources.

St. Paul's Parish, which occupies land in what is now King George County, was in Stafford County until 1777. Since most of the early records of Stafford County were destroyed, the 4,000 birth, marriage, and death records found in this transcription are of great importance.
