But such meagre particulars as can be put on a label are not likely to satisfy the interest of Visitors, and therefore, a Catalogue has been prepared by the Curator, giving a full description of the Pictures, with critical and historical remarks, and short biographical notices of the various Artists, prefixed to the list of their works. In doing this, the general plan and arrangement of the Catalogue of the National Gallery in London has been followed.
