Since I first came to Caroga Lake in 1949 when my parents bought a rustic camp on the north shore of West Caroga Lake, I have always been a bit in love with this area. When I graduated from seasonal to year-round resident in 1995 it became home sweet home. My selection of photos is, of course, arbitrary and makes no attempt to cover all aspects of our beautiful area. Still, you may get an idea of how much I care about this town I have made home and see the beauty of all four seasons.

The southern Adirondack Mountains community of Caroga Lake, Canada Lake, and Pine Lake is known for the power of its water and the perseverance of its people. The quiet mountain-lumbering community changed quickly in 1865 when two entrepreneurs purchased 20,000 acres of hemlock-rich land and erected a tannery to cure leather for a shoe-making business. Additional lumbering opportunities followed, and sawmills sprung up around many of the lakes. Horse-drawn carriage services and wood-burning steamboats delivered summer residents and artists to rustic camps that dotted the lakes' shorelines and tourists to grand hotels. Today the ghostly remains of Sherman's Park on West Caroga Lake and Groshans' Park at Pine Lake remind its residents and guests of the past that was and the future that might yet be.

We press on with the second volume of Phenomenal Stories Quarterly, a collection of the first three issues of Phenomenal Stories for 2019. As a special bonus, there's a new piece titled ?From the Desk of? GEOD? not found in any issue of Phenomenal Stories. Phenomenal Stories Quarterly is a companion magazine to Phenomenal Stories in the tradition of the science fiction/fantasy/horror pulps of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. It's also a somewhat cheaper means to get all the issues together. This issue contains stories by Richard H. Nilsen, Haldor R. Hallum, J.D. Hayes-Canell, Bridget Flynn-O?Leary, Henry Martin and a classic reprint by Frank Belknap Long Jr. Phenomenal Stories Quarterly is a modern-day tribute to the science fiction/horror/fantasy/speculative pulp magazines of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
