An analysis of duties performed in the various divisions of the Police Department of the City of Los Angeles was made during the summer of 1932 by the Bureau of Trade and Industrial Education, State Department of Education, after a series of conferences had led up to the recognition of the need for such an analysis. When all divisions had been covered, more than three thousand distinct types of jobs had been listed and as many items of knowledge required to perform these duties. Conferences were held with several police executives who furnished the necessary technical information for use in the construction of teaching units and lesson plans. The instructional material within this bulletin is meant to be suggestive in character.
