Choose your side in this cutthroat fight over the right to remain in one’s own home. A devastating injustice rages across America. It’s the theft of private property for private gain—or, as the lawyers call it, eminent domain. By any name, it spells one fate for its victims: the loss of their homes and dreams. Cade is back from Iraq with a bad conduct discharge, an addiction to painkillers, and a case of survivor’s guilt—the aftermath of an IED attack that killed seven Iraqi soldiers. When the eminent domain epidemic arrives at his doorstep, Cade is drawn into a fight to protect the apartment complex where he lives, which is also home to thousands of Salvadoran tenants. But he won’t fight unopposed: a real estate developer and a vicious gang leader will go to enormous lengths to crush Cade and his neighbors. Inspired by true events, Cade’s Rebellion is not only the story of one community’s efforts to reclaim their homes, but one man’s efforts to reclaim his soul.

Cade Cauldron is good at worrying. It's what he does. That, and manage the nutrition of the racing horses on his family's ranch. He's devoted to making the place a continuing success, and like 80% of his worrying is about Cauldron Valley Ranch... Right up until his grandfather tells him and his brothers and cousins that it's time for them to marry. Then he's got a whole other pile of worries. Dr. Jami Boatright has made a career out of studying modern-day marriages of convenience, and her bestselling books on the subject have made her a common name when it comes to the psychology and anthropology of marriage. But there's one thing lacking from her research...she's never actually been married, much less experienced a marriage of convenience. But when she arrives at the ranch, studying the latest Cauldron cousin's meeting-at-the-altar, Cade realizes she's exactly what he needs: A wife who will say yes for reasons of her own. A real-life modern marriage of convenience. But after the "I Do"s, real trouble starts, as they realize they don't know everything they thought they did about their new spouse. And even worse...these revelations don't seem to matter to their hearts, which keep forgetting this marriage has nothing to do with love. Or does it?

This book highlights the case of Brazil, a major economic player among developing countries. In seventeen years of enforcing the Brazilian Antitrust Law, Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE) has achieved outstanding results and has been recognized as the most effective antitrust enforcement agency in the developing world. This book is the first to describe and analyse the workings and case law of the CADE, emphasizing the agency’s fundamental methodology and focusing on the contributory roles of such factors as the following: mechanisms and procedures of enforcement of the Antitrust Law in Brazil; methodologies (tests) used for antitrust assessment (for merger and conduct controls); evaluation of barriers to entry and rivalry in analysed markets; assessment of proof and circumstantial evidence within CADE case law and court decisions; examination of rational justifications for practices under investigation; legality of exchange of information; leniency agreements; cease and desist agreements; cultural issues and modifications; civil and criminal enforcement; private damages considerations; and the role of international and regional competition law regimes (OECD, UNCTAD, WTO, ICN, Mercosur). The book’s consolidated research on Brazil’s cartel investigations clearly describes the main defence theories and the courts’ decisions. The authors also explore the relationship of Brazil’s antitrust law to the country’s public policies in the areas of consumer rights, public procurement, and measures against corruption, with special emphasis on the synergies arising from antitrust law and consumer protection. It is worth noting that the studies carried out in this book discussed Law No. 8884/94 (Brazilian Antitrust Law) and the New Brazilian Antitrust Law, which was passed on 5 October 2011 and which will be enforced in 2012. With its unique synthesis of constitutional law, comparative antitrust law, and CADE’s case law, this book will be welcomed by competition lawyers and other parties interested in methods and procedures used in merger and conduct control, and especially in anti-cartel enforcement, in developing countries.
