"Corporate Social Responsibility and Leadership" provides the needed tools for local and global business leaders - whether entrepreneur, CEO, executive, officer, or manager- to act in a legal, ethical, and socially responsible manner. Acting in a responsible way will require business leaders to be cognizant of various stakeholder interests as well as the ability to balance conflicting constituencies in a fair manner. The result should be the creation of long-term, sustainable value, not "merely" for the shareholders but also for the employees, customers, communities, and all the stakeholders of the organization, including society as a whole. This book explores the current state of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from an international perspective, the goal being to share ideas and visions for a sustainable future and to provide useful guidelines for academics, practitioners and policymakers in the context of the 2030 “Agenda for Sustainable Development” released by the United Nations. Research on CSR has evolved considerably over the last three decades. However, there are still many unanswered questions concerning the sustainability of business in an increasingly changing world, for example: If most companies consider CSR to be valuable to their organizations, why do only 15% of them systematically implement Social Responsibility initiatives? If CSR has been found to be profitable for companies, why are they so reluctant to develop an active, internal CSR policy? Why are there such significant differences in CSR adoption from country to country? Why does it take a huge crisis to make politicians react and regulate certain core CSR issues? This contributed volume answers these questions, presenting a wealth of case studies and new approaches in the process.

This dissection of the current global economy discusses the increasing obligation of organizations to promote corporate social responsibility and demonstrates how human resources plays a critical role in leading and educating firms regarding the importance of good corporate citizenship.

With the acceptance of CSR and Sustainability as important business performance indicators, it is timely now to assess the impact that leadership has on the development of these processes. CSR, Sustainability, and Leadership seeks to explore the integration of these three elements through an examination of concerns and trends in contemporary organisations. The authors discuss empirical and theoretical studies which focus on processes and practices which inform the field. Organisations wish not only to participate in responsible behaviour, but also actively lead within their local environments. The editors of this text contend that there is a lack of leadership in existence for deciding global and national problems. Colleges and universities are generally expected to produce national, political, scientific and corporate leaders. Most institutions maintain that their graduates are leaders, yet few institutions explicitly address the isssue of leadership and social responsibility in a systematic and comprehensive way. Often academic approaches consist of unfocused courses of leadership, looking at leadership styles and managerial decision-making within a business context. Basing their work on research, the editors discuss what they consider to be an important programme for the development of leadership and social responsibility in schools and institutions of higher education.

These chapters on ‘Responsible Leadership’ represent the latest thinking on a topic of increasing relevance in a connected world. There are many challenges that still remain when it comes to establishing responsible leadership both in theory and practice. Whilst offering conceptualisations for the improvement of leadership is a first and perhaps easier response, what is more difficult is to facilitate the actual change to happen. These chapters will not only generate interest in the emerging domain of studies on responsible leadership, but also will pave the way for future research in this area in the years to come.
