The idea behind Baby Reads began as a conversation that evolved into a solution. I was speaking with a fellow professor whose two year old was just beginning to explore the world of literacy. When she heard that I was a reading specialist, she began to ask questions about her child's progress. We talked about what he was able to do and I provided suggestions for the next steps in his literacy development. After our conversation, I reflected on the impact of that conversation. I empowered her with knowledge to best teach her son the literacy concepts he needed. Instead of directing her to multiple sources of information or suggesting that she purchase expensive pre-packaged literacy programs, I just gave her advice. From that advice she could pick and choose what would best work for her child.
