Brazilian pianist/composer Ernesto Jí_lio de Nazareth (1863-1934) composed approximately 210 works for the piano. His tangos "Brejerio" and "Odeon" were immensely popular during his lifetime and continue to be two of the most popular pieces ever written by a Brazilian salon composer. Written for late intermediate to early advanced level pianists, both are included here, along with four other tangos, two waltzes, and a charming polka, "Ameno resedíç". Nazareth's position in Brazilian music is often compared with Scott Joplin's historical importance in American music.

The tangos of Brazilian pianist/composer Ernesto Julio de Nazareth combine elements of European dances such as the polka and Latin-American forms including the maxixe. There are unmistakable syncopations of Scott Joplin's ragtime and, of cource, the cosmopolitan choros of his native Rio. These diverse sources of Nazareth melded into a style that is both uniquely personal and quintessentially of his time and place. Written in standard notation and tablature.

for piano This fascinating collection draws on a virtually unknown set of Brazilian dances for piano published at the end of the nineteenth century in Rio de Janeiro. These pieces blend the melodic charm and grace of the European polka and other dance forms with the sparkle and syncopation of Afro-Caribbean styles. The result is a repertoire filled with verve and wit that will appeal to players and audiences alike.
