It is generally opined-though erroneously, that the Vedanta or Upanisads are beyond the reach of common lot of people, and are meant for only the recluses dedicated to the spiritual quest. Swami Vivekananda not only introduced them to the general public, but also tried to convince them that the Upanisads have solutions to our common problems, The essays presented in this book attempt to give a glimpse into the Upanisadic methodology or Vicara as it is called, which makes use of doubt and inquiry.

What is the Bhagavad-Gita? Is it just a religious text? When was it composed? How relevant is it to the modern world? This book answers these foundational questions and more. It critically examines the Bhagavad-Gita in terms of its liberal, humanist and inclusive appeal, bringing out its significance for both present times and novel applications. The author elaborates the philosophy underlying the text as well as its ethical and spiritual implications. He also responds to criticisms that have been levelled against the text by Ambedkar, D. D. Kosambi and, more recently, Amartya Sen. The purpose of this book is to investigate the nature of the soteriology the quest for liberation of Advaita Vedanta.
