Julian "Quinn" Quintero, a gruff, tough Miami SWAT officer, has been injured on the job, and all he's looking for is a little peace and quiet to recover-difficult to achieve with his large Cuban family. An adventure in picking up his prescriptions puts him in the path of his geeky, brownie-baking neighbor, Spencer Morgan. Spencer sweeps into Quinn's life like a tropical storm of sunshine and rainbows. Not surprisingly, it's chaos at first sight. Quinn's in need of a little tender loving care, and Spencer decides he's just the man for the job. Their very different lives might clash, but they might also find some common ground-and maybe more.

Although this book is about Information Technology, it is in no way technical. The main objectives are to both enlighten and entertain. It covers the four decades I have worked in the industry in which I've attempted to cover all the good things, all the bad things and some downright ugly things. There is also a flavour of 'Wouldn't it be nice if...?' There are 26 sections - one for each letter of the alphabet and the book takes the format of Questions and Answers, not dissimilar to I.T Agony Uncle columns. The main message I have attempted to convey is that I.T. is a knowledge industry. It is populated almost exclusively by very smart people. These people do not require micro-management. They need to be encouraged and trusted to do outstanding work in an environment that is free of fear and blame. There are not many managers who are comfortable with this and we need a radical change in culture so that people can flourish and have fun.

The world's most infamous hacker offers an insider's view of the low-tech threats to high-tech security Kevin Mitnick's exploits as a cyber-desperado and fugitive form one of the most exhaustive FBI manhunts in history and have spawned dozens of articles, books, films, and documentaries. Since his release from federal prison, in 1998, Mitnick has turned his life around and established himself as one of the most sought-after computer security experts worldwide. Now, in The Art of Deception, the world's most notorious hacker gives new meaning to the old adage, "It takes a thief to catch a thief." Focusing on the human factors involved with information security, Mitnick explains why all the firewalls and encryption protocols in the world will never be enough to stop a savvy grifter intent on rifling a corporate database or an irate employee determined to crash a system. With the help of many fascinating true stories of successful attacks on business and government, he illustrates just how susceptible even the most locked-down information systems are to a slick con artist impersonating an IRS agent. Narrating from the points of view of both the attacker and the victims, he explains why each attack was so successful and how it could have been prevented in an engaging and highly readable style reminiscent of a true-crime novel. And, perhaps most importantly, Mitnick offers advice for preventing these types of social engineering hacks through security protocols, training programs, and manuals that address the human element of security.

2008 City of Victoria Butler Book Prize — Longlisted Jack’s life and career are on the line in a gritty return to the dark Vancouver underworld of Loose Ends. RCMP detective Jack Taggart has avenged the murders of his niece and nephew, but the consequences linger. His deal with Damien, leader of the "Satans Wrath" motorcycle gang, has put him in a bind and jeopardized an informant in the gang. Meanwhile, other gang members led by a mysterious figure known only as "The Boss" have been working to eliminate Taggart by destroying the lives of anyone with connections to him. And if the bad guys aren’t enough of an obstacle, there are problems on the force itself. Assistant Commissioner Isaac is becoming more and more suspicious that Jack may have been responsible for the death of a corrupt Crown prosecutor. With Jack’s life and career on the line, Above Ground is a tough and gritty follow-up that will more than satisfy readers who were pulled into the dark Vancouver underworld by Loose Ends, the first Jack Taggart mystery.
