Aprender a leer y escribir constituye uno de los pilares básicos del ámbito escolar. Esta finalidad, representa asimismo una de las preocupaciones más importantes de los profesores y padres en los primeros años de la escolaridad. Son muchos los estudios que durante los últimos años se vienen realizando para determinar los procesos fundamentales que el niño utiliza para aprender a leer y escribir. Afortunadamente gracias a estas investigaciones, ya se conocen hoy los procesos cognitivos que el niño emplea en este aprendizaje. Son precisamente éstos, los aspectos que se desarrollan en este libro con el fin de facilitar que ese aprendizaje sea lo más rápido y eficaz. En este material hemos incluido además, unas tareas de diagnóstico y evaluación que nos van a permitir conocer el grado de desarrollo de las habilidades fonólogicas del niño, con el propósito de trabajar a partir de sus propios conocimientos, así como de identificar los progresos que se van adquiriendo. The last 25 years have seen tremendous advances in the study of psychological processes in reading. Our growing body of knowledge on the reading process and reading acquisition has applications to such important problems as the prevention of reading difficulties and the identification of effective instructional practices. This volume summarizes the gains that have been made in key areas of reading research and provides insights on current controversies and debates. Based on twenty case studies of universities worldwide, and on a survey administered to leaders in 101 universities, this open access book shows that, amidst the significant challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, universities found ways to engage with schools to support them in sustaining educational opportunity. In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. This challenges the view of universities as "ivory towers" being isolated from the surrounding environment and detached from local problems. As they reached out to schools, universities not only generated clear and valuable innovations to sustain educational opportunity and to improve it, this process also contributed to transform internal university processes in ways that enhanced their own ability to deliver on the third mission of outreach
