"An encyclopaedic, four-volume work on every aircraft type proposed, designed, or manufactured in Australia, from Lawrence Hargrave's experiments in the 1880's, through to the authors self-imposed cutoff point in the mid-1980's. The four-volume work lists over 540 aircraft types as well as detailed histories of the companies involved in their construction. Coverage is multi-faceted, being technical, operational, historical, industrial, and political. Along with the text is the most comprehensive collection of photographs, technical drawings, and diagrams yet assembled into the one reference work, many of which have never before been seen outside the original source. Exhaustively researched over the past 40 years by the well-known aviation personality Keith Meggs, a man uniquely placed to write on all aspects of Australian aviation from construction through to operational flight. All volumes are superbly indexed and cross-referenced with the main text reinforced by extensive and detailed endnotes. Aircraft enthusiasts, pilots, aeronautical engineers, manufacturers, industrialists, universities, and other technical institutions, "Australian-built aircraft and the industry" is a must have for your reference library. In Volume One the fourteen chapters cover the following activities: Hargrave, Taylor, the Commonwealth Prize, Early Experimenters, Duigan, WWI Activity, AA&ECo, 1924 Lightplane Competition, LASCo, QANTAS, WAA, RAAF Randwick, Individual Builders 1918-1939, AMSCo, MSB, Matthews Aviation, General Aircraft Co, Cockatoo Dockyard, Tugan Aircraft, Harkness & Hillier, De Havilland (Aust) - part 1, Industry proposals, and other snippets."--Provided by publisher.

This two-volume collection brings together the first 56 Joseph Fisher Lectures in economics and commerce, presented at the Adelaide University every other year since 1904. Funds for the Lectures, together with a medal for the top accounting student each year, were kindly provided by a £1,000 endowment to the University by the prominent Adelaide businessman Joseph Fisher in 1903. The Lectures address a wide range of Australian economic issues, in addition to some international economic issues of national significance. They have stood the test of time extremely well, while also providing a reminder of the events and concerns that were prominent at different times during the past century.

Volume II of this mammoth reference work covers the years in which the League of Nations failed because of the emerging dictatorships in Germany and Italy and the expansionist policies adopted by Japan. Britain was still reeling from the consequences of World War I and the RAF was sadly far behind the other major world powers in aircraft design, still relying on bi-planes that were direct descendants of World War I thinking. It gradually became apparent that, despite UK government dithering, the RAF needed to develop new aircraft, engines and increase production to confront the bully-boy tactics of the Axis powers. As the turn of the decade approached extraordinary measures were taken to enable RAF to defend Britain's skies and this her freedom. As with Volume 1, this book covers every conceivable part of the RAF's history through these pre-War days. It looks at the development and invention of new equipment such as radar, monoplane fighters, metal construction and the heavy bomber. This was an era when science in aviation was rushing ahead and fortunately for Britain's freedom, it laid the foundations of victory in 1.945
