The town of Aurora was settled in 1804 and soon became a social and commercial center in Western New York. Visitors came to Aurora to get a glimpse of world-famous trotting horses at the Hamlin and Jewett farms and to see the Roycroft community of writers and craftsmen. Aurora Revisited tells the stories of notable citizens, including the 13th US president, Millard Fillmore, who established his first law office on Main Street; Iowa governor Horace Boies; and artist Margaret Evans Price, who designed the first pull toys for her husband's company. With more than 200 images spanning over a century, Aurora Revisited pays tribute to the men and women who sacrificed during times of war and chronicles the community's transition into a suburb that cherishes and promotes its historic roots.

At the dawn of the nineteenth century, resourceful pioneers carved a small community out of the wilderness in far western New York State. An agent of the Holland Company opened the way by surveying a road from Big Tree Indian Reservation to Lake Erie in 1803. One mile section of that road today is Main Street, East Aurora. A year later, a man named Jabez Warren obtained a contract for 1,443 acres of land, which makes up a large part of the Town of Aurora. The earliest settlers arrived, cleared the forests, farmed the land, harnessed the waterpower, and built mills. Their efforts and the richness of the land formed the foundation of a town that in years to come provided food and materials for the the city of Buffalo and nearby areas. Town of Aurora: 1818-1930, presents more than a century of the history of this vibrant community. It includes some notable people and places. In the spring of 1823, young attorney Millard Fillmore opened the first law office in town--twenty-seven years before he became the nation's thirteenth president. In 1832, Aurora Academy, the most celebrated institution of learning in western New York, was incorporated. By the 1890s, Hamlin Village Farm, and Jewett's Stock Farm were world famous for the breeding of harness race horses. In 1895, Elbert Hubbard established the arts and crafts community of the Roycrofters, which flourished into the 1930s.

In 1897, people in western United States began seeing airships in the night skies. Despite abundant reports of sightings from California to Michigan, little explanatory information was given to the public. Speculation arose that the United States government had started a secret flight program or that life from another world had contacted Earth. The implications of each conjecture were staggering, pointing to a major governmental or scientific cover-up that wouldchange the course of history. While this book focuses on the sightings in Texas, it takes into account all of the reports filed. After addressing previous theories of what the airships were and where they came from, Solving the 1897 Airship Mystery puts forth a new analysis, using detailed accounts from period newspapers and other documents left behind. By writing in chronological order, Michael Busby traces the course of the flights that led to the mystery. Included are numerous appendixes, figures, and tables that present the information in an easy-to-handle format.
