This document provides an overview of the history of the Medical Research Council of Canada in the 1990s, including MRC's 1993 strategic plan, the budget reductions of 1995, and the creation of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

Abuses by international corporations, withdrawal of social services and implementation of regressive legislation continue to impoverish women and reduce the quality of their everyday lives: women have reason to be demoralized. Recognizing this challenging and difficult situation, this volume reviews women's successes at feminizing Canadian institutions.
