This submission updates Volume V to the latest Acquisition Phase specification for Tower Control Computer Complex (TCCC), and includes corrections and improvements as necessary. This volume is one of a series of operations concepts for the FAA's Advanced Automation System (AAS). It describes how Tower controllers in the Airport Traffic Control Towers (ATCT) may perform their operational jobs in the full TCCC environment. TCCC functionality is assumed to be as described in the AAS System Level Specification, 28 August 1987. Separate analysis are presented for the three basic control positions: Local Control, Ground Control. and Clearance Delivery/Flight Data. Included here are: Composition Graphs, showing the logical flow of operational tasks performed in response to or anticipation of external Air Traffic Events; a series of analyses of these tasks, including Task Information Requirements, Cognitive/ Sensory Attributes, and Performance Criteria; a User Interface Language aggregation system input and output messages in a hierarchical organization; decomposition of tasks to their constituent procedural elements; traceability between tasks and supporting TCCC functionality; and sample operational scenarios for each tower position. Data presented here are generated and maintained using the Computer-Human Operational Requirements Analysis System (CHORAS). CHORAS includes an automated task data base, specialized graphing capabilities, and display and hard copy output features tailored to the needs of operations concept analysis. Keywords: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Operations Concept for the TCCC Man-Machine Interface analyzes the tower Air Traffic Controller's job in the Tower Control Computer Complex (TCCC) environment. It considers the operations in today's towers and the automated capabilities planned for the TCCC, to reach an understanding of the Controller's job after TCCC implementation. Three separate positions are analyzed: Local Control, Ground Control, and Clearance Delivery/Flight Data. Analysis results include composition graphs and narratives showing the logical flow through the sub-activities of the three positions; task analysis, presenting the tasks of each position; task characterizations, including information requirements, cognitive/sensory attributes, and performance criteria associated with each task; and a top-level dialogue description summarizing the interaction between controller and TCCC. Traceability between tasks and system level specification requirements is also provided.
