This book constitutes the proceedings of the 12th Mexican Conference on Pattern Recognition, MCPR 2020, which was due to be held in Morelia, Mexico, in June 2020. The conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 31 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 67 submissions. They were organized in the following topical sections: pattern recognition techniques; image processing and analysis; computer vision; industrial and medical applications of pattern recognition; natural language processing and recognition; artificial intelligence techniques and recognition.

This book presents a unique selection of fully reviewed, extended papers originally presented at the Social Simulation Conference 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. Only papers on the simulation of historical processes have been selected, the aim being to present theories and methods of computer simulation that can be relevant to understanding the past. Applications range from the Paleolithic and the origins of social life up to the Roman Empire and Early Modern societies. Case studies from Europe, America, Africa and Asia have been selected for publication. Presents papers resulting from the EPNet project (Production and Distribution of Food during the Roman Empire: Economic and Political Dynamics) which aimed to investigate existing hypotheses about the Roman economy in order to understand which products were distributed through the different geographical regions of the empire, and in which periods.

This volume brings together a corpus of scholars whose work collectively represents a significant advancement in the study of prehistoric ethnicity in the Andean region. The assembled research represents an outstanding collection of theoretical and methodological approaches, and conveys recent discoveries in several subfields of prehistoric Andean anthropology, including spatial archaeology, mortuary archaeology, textile studies, ceramic analysis, and biological anthropology. Many of the authors in this volume apply novel research techniques, while others wield more established approaches in original ways. Although the research presented in this volume has occurred in the Andean region, many of the novel methods applied will be applicable to other geographic regions, and it is hoped that this research will stimulate others to pursue future innovative work in the prehistoric study of ethnic identification.
