El tema del hombre ha sido y es preocupación filosófica permanente. Todo silósofo tiene que enfrentarse con él en uno u otro momento de su vida. Para el filósofo español Xavier Zubiri (1898-1983), el tema del hombre fue motivo de investigación y estudio durante más de medio siglo. Fruto de ello fueron varios trabajos publicados a lo largo de su vida: El problema del hombre (1959), El hombre, realidad personal (1963), El origen del hombre (1964), El hombre y su cuerpo (1973), y varios miles de folios hasta hoy inéditos.
