This is a book of awareness and love. The correspondence between two girlhood friends from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan launched the “anniecat chronicles” project. With thoughts and events to share, they embraced email and bridged the miles and the years between Michigan and South Carolina. A wealth of remembrances, including Campfire Girls, failed romances, class reunions and their 80th birthdays, are recorded with splendid humor and devotion to narrative. Interwoven in the chronicles are the author’s short stories and poetry, her tribute to the beauty of life in the northwoods and to the joy of family.

Because of their popularity, books in series are great vehicles for fostering literacy among all types of readers, who are almost always adamant about reading every title in the series, in series order. Yet traditional information sources on children's and YA literature include very little about series fiction, so librarians often have difficulty managing this literature. This guide will be a rich resource and time-saver for librarians who work with children. It introduces users to the best and most popular fiction series of today, covering more than 1,000 series with over 10,000 titles, appropriate for elementary readers. Annotations also indicate series and titles accepted by some of the popular electronic reading programs (e.g., Accelerated Reading, Reading First). A numbered list of titles in the series follows.

Northbrook, "the Village of Friendly Living," was incorporated on November 18, 1901, as Shermerville. Prohibition and the Roaring Twenties brought new hopes, dreams, and a new identity--Northbrook, named for the West Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River. An airport and seven golf courses opened, and new streets were paved in anticipation of a building boom that went bust, cut short by the Great Depression. Early-1940s expansion was temporarily put on hold for World War II, but by 1949, subdivisions began sprouting up in farm fields. The long-anticipated growth of Northbrook had finally begun. New roads leading to Northbrook and the desire for suburban living caused the quaint 1950s community of 3,348 to grow to 11,635 residents a decade later. Today almost 35,000 people call Northbrook home.
