Annals of Language and Learning is the conference proceedings of the Second International Online Language Conference which was successfully held in July 2009. This event allowed professors, Master's students, Ph.D. students, and academics from around the world to submit papers pertaining to the areas of the conference theme. The conference was organized by International Online Knowledge Service Provider (IOKSP).

This is an open access book. The rapid advancement of technology has created new civilization in this digital era which affects almost all aspects of life including language, literature, culture, and education. The digital era brings opportunities as well as challenges that people have to deal with. Thus, some adjustments need to be done in order to keep up with those changes. Studies on language, literature, culture, and education need to be continuously conducted and developed to revitalize those aspects in facing the dynamic changes of the digital era. In relation to this, Faculty of Language and Literature Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (FPBS UPI) hosts this year’s International Conference on Language, Literature and Culture (ICOLLITE) with the theme “Revitalization of Language, Literature, Culture, and Education in the Digital Era” as a forum for experts and professionals to share their research, ideas, and experiences on this issue. Presenters and participants are welcome to discuss and disseminate current issues and offer solutions to the challenges of our time. Discussions on current trends in digital literacies are expected to pave way to learn from each other for betterment as one big society of humankinds, regardless of their social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

This book aims to present the results of research in the sphere of business language and culture, as well as the experience of pedagogical staff and practitioners concerned with broadly understood business. The highly complex nature of contemporary business environment, approached from both the theoretical and practical standpoint, does not cease to prove that research into business studies cannot be dissociated from the cultural and linguistic context. The chapters included in this book were contributed by academics and practitioners alike, which offers a balanced approach to the topic and ensures high levels of diversity together with an undeniable homogeneity. They were gathered with a view to show various aspects of business language, perceived both as a medium of communication and as a subject of research and teaching. They are concerned with business culture as well, including business ethics and representations of business in popular culture. Owing to its multidisciplinary approach, the book presents a roadmap towards successful functioning in business settings, highlighting such issues as education for business purposes, the study of language used in business contexts, the aspects of cross-cultural communication, as well as ethical behaviour based upon different values in multicultural business environments. Given its multifarious character, the book surely appeals not only to academics, but also to the interested laymen and students who wish to expand their knowledge of business studies and related phenomena.

In the digital age, technology has become essential for online learning and teaching for learners at all levels of education. YouTube is highly popular amongst young people in Hong Kong and across the globe. In foreign language acquisition, how do learners perceive the use of YouTube for English learning in out-of-class settings? This book reports the findings of a case study of learners at a university in Hong Kong from students’ perspectives. The detailed, qualitative study adopts a narrative inquiry approach in order to examine students’ perceptions, factors shaping them, and the extent to which perceptions affect language learning practices on YouTube. The implications highlighted here include developing five qualities for learners that facilitate autonomous and experiential learning out-of-class, training that supplements in-class learning, and whole-person development. The findings shed light on understanding students’ needs and interests for an improved quality of language teaching that meets the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Language and Identity is the third volume of the Readings in Language Studies series published by the International Society for Language Studies, Inc. Edited by Paul Chamness Miller, John L. Watzke, and Miguel Mantero, volume three sustains the society's mission to organize and disseminate the work of its contributing members through peer-reviewed publications. The book presents international perspectives on language and identity in several thematic sections: discourse, culture, identity in the professions, policy, pedagogy, and the learner. A resource for scholars and students, Language and Identity, represents the latest scholarship in new and emergent areas of inquiry.

This collection is comprised of papers submitted to the 3rd International Online Language Conference (IOLC) held in September 2010. IOLC 2010 was a two-day conference which aimed to provide a forum for academics, practitioners, experts and students to debate current international issues and challenges in the broad area of language learning and teaching. This annual world-renowned conference takes place over the internet, allowing participants to save accommodation and flight expenses and at the same time helping to save our planet by reducing CO2 emissions. All submitted papers went through a double blind review process before a decision was made. This was to ensure the quality level of the conference is kept high.
