Two cousins were raised by their grandparents. Margarets parents died from an accident, and Saras parents died from the flu epidemic. Sara was beautiful and always appeared happy and was kind to everyone. She had many friends and always had a good attitude about life. She inherited a large inheritance from her deceased parents and a marriage proposal from the most popular guy at school. Each injustice led to a retaliation of even more unjust actions. Certainly the Lawrence Massacre could be interpreted as a reprisal for the collapse of the Bingham Building. However, the Centralia Massacre can only be attributed to the diabolical cravings of the maniac 'Bloody Bill Anderson'.

The concluding section of this remarkable book explores the ways that regional cultures have continued to dominate national politics from 1789 to 1988, and still help to shape attitudes toward education, government, gender, and violence, on which differences between American regions are greater than between European nations.
