Investigates the impact of block schedules on Virginia high school music performance classes.

Presents the research studies which focused on "effective teaching and learning in high school block periods". 40 teachers and 10 Seattle-Puget Sound, Washington, area high schools that had already adopted some form of block-period schedule conducted these action research studies. Chapter 1 presents an analysis of these studies. Chapter 2 explores the nature of action research. Chapters 3 through 9 present the seven action research studies at the heart of the project, with critical commentaries.
