This book deals with the reminiscences of my early life and professional career. My earliest recollection begins with an obscure village where my father was working just before his retirement. I did not attend school while in that village. My uncle’s initiative took us to Mysore, the capital of Mysore state at that time. I completed my school and college education there. I then joined India’s top institution and did electrical engineering. Post graduation, I served as a lecturer, design engineer, and plant engineer in several organizations and retired as a general manager in a premier electronics company in India. I have outlined here the challenges I faced during my preliminary and advanced studies. I have tried to describe the peculiarities in the various jobs I held. When I call my book "An Engineer’s Dream," I do not mean the dreams that portray the images or emotions that occur in one’s sleep. I specifically refer to the aims, aspirations, and ambitions of an individual. These may be explicitly stated or be held confidentially within one’s mind. Every person will surely have some aim (s). It may vary from person to person and from time to time for the same person, depending on the circumstances. I have analyzed “My dreams” in the preface to this book. The needed requisites for the fulfillment of one’s dreams are Will, Patience, Perseverance, Self-confidence, and Faith. I am happy to state that I have fulfilled my dreams.

Petroski reveals the science and engineering--not to mention the politics, egotism, and sheer magic--behind America's great bridges, particularly those constructed during the great bridge-building era starting in the 1870s and continuing through the 1930s. It is the story of the men and women who built the St. Louis, the George Washington, and the Golden Gate bridges, drawing not only on their mastery of numbers but on their gifts for persuasion and self-promotion. It is an account of triumphs and ignominious disasters (including the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which literally twisted itself apart in a high wind). And throughout this grandly engaging book, Petroski lets us see how bridges became the "symbols and souls" of our civilization, as well as testaments to their builders' vision, ingenuity, and perseverance. "Seamlessly linked...With astonishing scope and generosity of view, Mr. Petroski places the tradition of American bridge-building in perspective."--New York Times Book Review

In this beloved New York Times bestselling picture book, meet Rosie Revere, a seemingly quiet girl by day but a brilliant inventor of gizmos and gadgets by night. Rosie dreams of becoming a great engineer, and her room becomes a secret workshop where she constructs ingenious inventions from odds and ends. From hot dog dispensers to helium pants and python-repelling cheese hats, Rosie's creations would astound anyone—if only she'd let them see. But Rosie is afraid of failure, so she hides her inventions under her bed. That is, until her great-great-aunt Rose (also known as Rosie the Riveter) pays her a visit. Aunt Rose teaches Rosie that the first flop isn't something to fear; it's something to celebrate. Failure only truly happens if you quit. And so, Rosie learns to embrace her passion, celebrate her missteps, and pursue her dreams with persistence. This empowering picture book encourages young readers to explore their creativity, persevere through challenges, and celebrate the journey toward achieving their goals. Whether you're a budding engineer or simply love stories of resilience, Rosie Revere, Engineer is a delightful read for all ages. Get the inside scoop on the U.S. space program from an aerospace engineer with more than three decades of experience. Bill Dye is one of the lucky ones. Like so many of his childhood pals, he dreamed of flying jets or being a console guy launching satellites. Unlike so many young boys who wished for a life of adventure amid the romance of space travel, Bills dream became his reality. His boyhood passion for airplanes and rockets, fueled by his parents encouragement, launched him into an exciting, fulfilling career in aerospace. In Dyes often humorous, entertaining memoir, youll get the inside scoop on the U.S. space program from an aerospace engineer with more than three decades of experience. Youll discover how a kid who used to win science fairs and fire off homemade rockets ends up directing the design and development of several spacecraftincluding IKONOS, an Earth-observation satellite that changed the world. He is proof that even the loftiest dreams are attainable with the right opportunities, the right education, and the right attitude. As a fellow aerospace engineer, once I started reading Climbing into My Dream, I couldnt put it down. Many of us from different backgrounds went on this exhausting but exhilarating journey. Bill Dye was the go-to guy who was fun to be with. His story brought back memories of learning the trade. Tom Dougherty, program director (retired), Lockheed Martin
