A history of the presidents of the united States by author and illustrator Shenandoah Seth See (that's me!), aka the magnificent Jack Strange. This massive and colossal work comes from a lifelong, personal and family interest in American politics and U.S. Presidents compounded into two or three years of serious study and research that went into actually creating this book, at which time I created a serious drawing for every president featured and compiled every available piece of art and historic (public domain) imagery that I could pack into this massive text. This book is very long, and therefore separated into the first half of two parts which, when combined, total as many as 1200 pages and is a mixture of my personal views mixed with public knowledge and available resources. This work is so large that it becomes rather difficult to edit, and is therefore released in this "preliminary" edition as something of a "rough draft" but is, nonetheless, a very beautiful work that I am at least somewhat proud of. It is long because it is a detailed study which covers 46 presidents, of which I am certainly not the master of, on any given day, but putting together this book has helped further my knowledge and appreciation of U.S. Presidents while it also serves to cap off a lifelong interest curiosity which I will hopefully not devote nearly as much time to again. Whenever at all possible, I tried to have much of the book written by some of the various presidents themselves, wherever they had knowledge or could be quoted. This is a work of ongoing research and therefore may not, if ever, be considered totally finished, and, like many books of this nature, may continue to be revised or updated as long as the presidents of the united States continue to exist! This study seeks to resolve differences between various types of political leaders and to link broad historical patterns with the idiosyncratic circumstances of individual lives and careers--to integrate the micro and the macro levels of understanding in the field of leadership studies. To accomplish this task, a vast array of previous scholarship and primary documents has been assembled and drawn into new combinations. Equivalent data on all U.S. presidents enable an unprecedented internal comparison within this select group. Comparison with parallel data, developed for other types of leaders, permits U.S. presidents to be analyzed in comparative perspective for the first time. American presidents emerged from this study looking very much like other political leaders in terms of social background and preparation for a political career.
