Concerns the status of the 1949 and 1968 Conventions on Road Traffic, and the amendment procedure for the 1949 Convention.

Transmits a request from the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) for an opinion on the compatibility of 2 drafts with the Convention on Road Traffic and the European Agreement supplementing it.

The WP.1 Ad Hoc Group of Legal Experts considered the issues of compatibility of proposed new vehicle systems with the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic; a proposal for road signs for the transport of dangerous goods through tunnels and its consistency with the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals and the European Agreement supplementing it and the Consolidated Resolution on Road Signs and Signals; different provisions for driving permits in the 1949 and 1968 Road Traffic Conventions; definitions of mopeds and motorcycles; and other issues.

Proposes amendments to the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic and to the 1971 European Agreement, with regard to the permissible maximum blood alcohol level for drivers.

Concerns position of the Russian Federation regarding amendments proposed by the Group of Legal Experts at its meeting in Luxembourg, 18-19 June 2001, on questions relating to the use of blue markings, priority at roundabouts, behaviour at pedestrian crossings, and incorporation of the distinguishing sign into the registration plate.
