Excerpt from Exercises in French Prose Composition Though no reference is made to any grammar, the student should frequently consult his grammar upon any matter in which he is in doubt. The vocabulary is a special one, containing over one thousand of the most common words, and also much guid ance to correct translation. The notes fulfill a double function: they arrest attention upon special points of construction, and convey such aid in the choice of words and idioms as could not be inserted in the vocabulary. It need only be added that the preparation of the exercises should be followed by oral practice in class upon the same material, until the student gains uency and confidence. Excerpt from Introductory French Prose Composition For several years I have been urged to prepare alternate exercises for my "Introductory French Prose Composition." Instead of presenting them in the form of a pamphlet, which is inconvenient and easily lost, it was deemed more practical to have a new book combining the Preface, the French texts, and the Transposition Directions of the old book with new sets of Questions and fresh material for Grammar Drill and English Exercises. A new feature is to be found in Part II. Sets of English Questions, based on the preceding French texts, have been added. The pupils are expected to translate them and to answer them viva voice. Two other additions consist in an English-French Vocabulary and a fist of irregular verbs which in future editions will be found at the end of both books. The author hopes that these new Exercises will be found as satisfactory as those of the original book. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
