It is our great pleasure to present the proceedings of the symposia and workshops on parallel and distributed computing and applications associated with the ICA3PP 2010 conference. These symposia and workshops provide vibrant opportunities for researchers and industry practitioners to share their research experience, original research results and practical development experiences in the new challenging research areas of parallel and distributed computing technologies and applications. It was the first time that the ICA3PP conference series added symposia and wo- shops to its program in order to provide a wide range of topics that extend beyond the main conferences. The goal was to provide a better coverage of emerging research areas and also forums for focused and stimulating discussions. With this objective in mind, we selected three workshops to accompany the ICA3PP 2010 conference: • FPDC 2010, the 2010 International Symposium on Frontiers of Parallel and Distributed Computing • HPCTA 2010, the 2010 International Workshop on High-Performance Computing, Technologies and Applications • M2A 2010, the 2010 International Workshop on Multicore and Mul- threaded Architectures and Algorithms Each of the symposia / workshops focused on a particular theme and complemented the spectrum of the main conference. All papers published in the workshops proce- ings were selected by the Program Committee on the basis of referee reports. Each paper was reviewed by independent referees who judged the papers for originality, quality, contribution, presentation and consistency with the theme of the workshops.

The International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS 2004) held in Krak ́ ow, Poland, June 6–9, 2004, was a follow-up to the highly successful ICCS 2003 held at two locations, in Melbourne, Australia and St. Petersburg, Russia; ICCS 2002 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and ICCS 2001 in San Francisco, USA. As computational science is still evolving in its quest for subjects of inves- gation and e?cient methods, ICCS 2004 was devised as a forum for scientists from mathematics and computer science, as the basic computing disciplines and application areas, interested in advanced computational methods for physics, chemistry, life sciences, engineering, arts and humanities, as well as computer system vendors and software developers. The main objective of this conference was to discuss problems and solutions in all areas, to identify new issues, to shape future directions of research, and to help users apply various advanced computational techniques. The event harvested recent developments in com- tationalgridsandnextgenerationcomputingsystems,tools,advancednumerical methods, data-driven systems, and novel application ?elds, such as complex - stems, ?nance, econo-physics and population evolution.

The refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies, Ada-Europe 2003, held in Toulouse, France in June 2003. The 29 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on Ravenscar, language issues, static analysis, distributed information systems, software metrics, software components, formal specification, real-time kernel, software testing, and real-time systems design.

The theme “Build and Conquer” chosen for this year’s conference fully represents what we (the organizers) want to put across to the software community: software development is an engineering discipline, and not an artistic expression. Once we are ready to “build” our software systems using pieces previously builtin (similar to any other technology manufacturer), we will be able to “conquer” the software engineering process. If we take a look at other engineering disciplines such as car manufacturing, house appliances or aeronautics, we see that the final products are built through the integration of multiprovider commercial components. These components are successfully integrated and constitute an important part of the final product. Most software-related organizations still build software from scratch, omitting thousands of ready-built commercially available software components that could be used very effectively during the development phase. This year ICCBSS moves to Europe for the first time since the first conference took place in Orlando, FL, USA in 2002. The conference scope has enlarged over the years to include the Open Source community and Web Services technologies. The reason for this is that I believe both are considered components-off-the-shelf, so many of the characteristics of COTS are also applied to Open Source and Web Services. Due to this, we will enjoy the presence of keynote speakers and researchers presenting on these two topics for the first time.

Topics covered include: parallel and distributed computing, software architecture and hardware for distributed computer control, real-time operating systems, real-time communication architectures.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies, Ada-Europe 2002, held in Vienna, Austria, in June 2002. The 24 revised full papers presented together with four invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the proceedings. The papers are organized in topical sections on embedded systems, case studies, real-time systems, high-integrity systems, Ada language issues, program analysis, tools, distributed systems, and libraries and APIs.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th European Conference on Genetic Programming, EuroGP 2004, held in Coimbra, Portugal, in April 2004. The 38 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 61 submissions. The papers deal with a variety of foundational and methodological issues as well as with advanced applications in areas like engineering, computer science, language understanding, bioinformatics, and design.
