This publication focuses on the situation in Canada, where although population ageing is occurring less rapidly than in many other OECD countries, the old-age dependency ratio is projected to rise from 20 per cent in 2004 to just over 45 per cent by 2050.

In recent years, however, pension reform has become a pressing matter, as demographic aging, poor administration, early retirement, and unaffordable benefits have strained pension balances and overall public finances.
