Four sustainable development goals are addressed in this document. These are based on the three strategic objectives of the Department as well as an environmentally-sensitive objective, that of Greening Operations. It discusses the concept of sustainable transportation; the environmental impacts of transportation; trends & challenges for transportation in the future; the organizations responsible for transportation in Canada; national & local initiatives in sustainable transportation, implementation of more efficient transportation, alternative fuels, intelligent transportation systems, and public awareness & education; and Canadian involvement in international sustainable transportation activities.
