The sixth installment in the Star Trek original series, The Abode of Life. The citizens of the planet Mercan cannot conceive of worlds beyond their own. Their sun is prone to deadly radioactive flare-ups, and the Mercans have organized their life around the need to survive The Ordeal. All that might change, though, when a badly-damaged EnterpriseTM arrives near Mercan, desperately in need of repairs. It's not an easy task, though, begging help from people who can hardly believe in your existence, and Kirk finds himself torn between the safety and survival of his crew and the Prime Directive, which dictates that he must leave the Mercans to live their lives in peace, and, therefore, in ignorance.

Internal pressures, enormous military expenditures, and the destruction of their primary energy source have brought the Klingon Empire to the verge of catastrophic collapse. To avert disaster, Gorkon, Chancellor of the Klingon High Council, proposes negotiations between the Federation and Klingon Empire, negotiations that will put an end to the years of hostility between the two powers, and herald a new era of peace and cooperation. Captain James T. Kirk and the U.S.S. Enterprise are dispatched to escort the Chancellor safely into Federation space. But a treacherous assassination brings negotiations to a sudden halt and places Kirk and Dr. McCoy in the hands of the Federation's greatest enemy. With time running out, Spock and the Enterprise crew work to uncover the deadly secret that threatens to propel the galaxy into the most destructive conflict it has ever known.

Deep Space NineTM is forced to curtail entry to the wormhole due to increased graviton emissions, and an air of biting tension settles over the station. This anxiety leads to the murder of an Edeman religious leader, Commander Benjamin Sisko and Security Chief Odo realize they face a larger problem. Soon Sisko and Odo have more lifeless bodies on their hands and a killer who strikes without motive. Then, both the Edemans and Cardassians arrive threatening to destroy the station unless the murderer is given to them for retribution. In order to save Deep Space Nine and stop the killing, Odo must try to destroy a powerful assassin who is the only link to his mysterious past.
