One of the most pervasive factors affecting the international grain market is the status of grain production and utilization in the United States. The US commodity system includes a variety of programs designed to stabilize and enhance farm income. This report summarizes key aspects of US grain commodity programs in two categories, domestic and export. The domestic programs involve both direct price support and indirect support through supply reduction. Export development consists of three types of programs: aid programs under the Agriculture Trade & Assistance Act, credit programs, and bilateral trade agreements.
