Italic Letters. 116. Italic letters are those which stand inclining. This sentence is printed in Italics. When an author wishes to distinguish a particular word or phrase for the sake of emphasis, or for any other purpose, it is generally printed in Italics: "I'll keep them all; he shall not have a Scot of them." In writing it is customary to underline such words as would be italicized in printing: This is also called underscoring.
