Includes a reprint of Edwin Markham's "Lincoln--the man of the people", probably as printed on 12 February 1909, and a tightly clipped copy of "Address of Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of Gettysburg Cemetery" as calligraphed by Edward B. Edwards and printed in color in the magazine of the Sunday record-herald (Chicago), 29 May 1910.

Coe, retired business man and farmer, who in his boy hood knew Abraham Lincoln, died at 4 p. M. Yesterday at his home in Rochester. He was 85 years old. Mr. Coe was the son of John C. Coe, a forty-niner who crossed the plains with an ox team in the first years of the famous California gold rush. The father was a personal friend and legal client of Lincoln, and Richard H. Coe recalled vividly even in late years of his life, of sitting on the emancipator's knee during a conference between the two men before Lincoln left for Washington Mr. Coe's father also claimed among his friends Col. Bound scrapbook consisting primarily of newspaper clippings regarding of President Abraham Lincoln's assassination, as well as his funeral, the search for and apprehension of the conspiritors, and the subsequent trial, along with accounts of the conclusion of the U.S. Civil War. The final third of the scrapbook, while still containing some Lincoln material, consists of a more general array of newspaper clippings, including President Andrew Johnson's impeachment trial, as well as numerous humor pieces. The scrapbook was bound by J.B. Sandlin of Valparaiso, Indiana, but no provenance information is available.
