Fenoglio's last work, the short «partisan novel» entitled A Private Matter, was published in April of 1963, two months after the author's death. Had he been alive, Fenoglio would have been happy to witness the enthusiasm which greeted the publication of his book. Among those who read the novel and praised it most highly we find Italo Calvino: «And it was the most solitary of us who succeeded in writing the novel we all wanted to write about the war (...) Only now thanks to Fenoglio, we can say that a season was completed, and only now we are certain that it really existed: the season that goes from Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno (1947) to Una questione privata (1963).»

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Diana Gabaldon weaves a dazzling tale of history, intrigue, and suspense in this first novel featuring one of her most popular characters from the Outlander saga: Lord John Grey. The year is 1757. On a clear morning in mid-June, Lord John Grey emerges from London’s Beefsteak Club, his mind in turmoil. A nobleman and a high-ranking officer in His Majesty’s army, Grey has just witnessed something shocking. But his efforts to avoid a scandal that might destroy his family are interrupted by something still more urgent: The Crown appoints him to investigate the brutal murder of a comrade-in-arms who may have been a traitor. Obliged to pursue two inquiries at once, Major Grey finds himself ensnared in a web of treachery and betrayal that touches every stratum of English society—and threatens all he holds dear. Praise for Lord John and the Private Matter “[A] thoroughly entertaining and wonderfully witty historical mystery set in the richly detailed, occasionally bawdy world of Georgian England.”—Booklist “Packed with vivid description and detail. Gabaldon aptly transports readers to eighteenth-century London, with all its reeking humanity and glitteringly elegant excess.”—BookPage

Domestic violence has evolved in recent years from a husband's prerogative, to a technical violation of the law, to a crime with potentially serious consequences. As the toll of domestic violence becomes increasingly apparent, society is growing less and less tolerant of it. This three-volume series charts a revolution that arguably is as important to the lives of women as obtaining the rights to own property and to vote.Through incisive articles by leading authorities, landmark cases and diverse historical and contemporary documents, this three-volume set explores the history, nature and causes of domestic violence. A comprehensive introduction by the editor provides an analytical overview of the problem, presents a wide variety of viewpoints on controversial issues and a roadmap to challenges that lay ahead. The series chronicles the legal systems historically lackluster response to battering, tactics used by victims to force authorities to respond to their calls for help and innovative efforts underway to deter the problem through, among other things, education and enhanced legal sanctions.Libraries, law schools, law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, medical and social service professionals will find these books to be an indispensable reference work, the richest and most comprehensive collection available on the subject of domestic violence. For scholars in diverse fields such as history, sociology, psychology and women's studies, the anthology is an invaluable tool for interdisciplinary research. All readers will find the series to be a treasure trove of information regarding the evolving status of women in modern history.
