John Benson was born 1608 in England. He married Mary (surname unknown) in England sometime prior to the year 1636. They left Caversham, England and immigrated to America in 1638 with their two children. John settled with his family in Hingham, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. They were the parents of five known children. John died 13 January 1678 in Hull, Massachusetts. Descendants lived primarily in New York and Massachusetts.

John Benson was born in about 1608 in England. He married Mary Williams, daughter of Robert Williams and Agnes Atkins, 14 October 1633 in Caversham, Oxfordshire. They emigrated in 1638 and settled in Hingham, Massachusetts. They had five children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and South Carolina.
