Not illustrated. 1842 edition. Excerpt: ... could not by possibility be excluded from entering upon mercantile affairs. The history of the trade of the nation, therefore, when in the reigns of Richard the Second and Henry the Fourth it became increased to a large extent, will afford us a fair insight into the condition of the town. One of the earliest monasteries established in Ipswich was that of Trinity or Christ church. These sums were derived from the advowsons, and portions of the churches of St. Lawrence, St. Mary at Tower, St. Mary at Elms, St. Savoir, St. John Baptist, St. Margaret, Trinity, and St. Michael in the borough of Ipswich. In other parts of the county, the c convent possessed property at Tudenham, Momingthorpe, Mendham, Rushmere, Foxhall, Bentley, Higham, Willisham, and Preston. It also owned a water course, and a mill in Hagonford--pasturage for four hundred sheep, free warren in eleven parishes, and rents in many other...
