The essays by journalist Frank Miele in this collection span from 2003 to 2018. "What Matters Most" is Volume 6 of the Heartland Diary USA series. Most of these essays originally appeared in the Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell, Montana, where Miele worked for 34 years, including 18 years as managing editor. Miele gained a wide following for his weekly conservative "Editor's 2 Cents" commentaries, which are now collected in the Heartland Diary series. Family caregiving affects millions of Americans every day, in all walks of life. At least 17.7 million individuals in the United States are caregivers of an older adult with a health or functional limitation. The nation's family caregivers provide the lion's share of long-term care for our older adult population.
