Excerpt from A Few Words Anent the 'Red' Pamphlet The 'Red' Pamphlet, entitled 'the Mutiny of the Bengal Army, by One who has served under Sir Charles Napier, ' is so full of gross misrepresentations that One who has served under Lord Dalhousie feels constrained to contradict some of them and to ask the Public to distrust more. It has not been without some misgivings as to the entire propriety of such a step that I assume, on the present occasion, in their absence from this country, an attitude involving the defence of such persons as Lord Dalhousie and the Members of the Indian Government: nor should I, probably, have thought it worth while to notice at all the gross calumnies of an anonymous writer, had these not received apparent countenance from some remarks which lately fell from the Earl of Derby in his place in Parliament. Without following him over so extensive a field as the causes of the late Revolt, I will enumerate seriatim such of the writer's statements as can be proved to be incorrect: - Page 9.
