This poetry book is contributed to the continue struggle in my life, personal, and professional, to the overall things that is in my heart that happens each and every day. It’s the way of the world being expressed on paper. It’s what I see with my eyes that other refuse to see or say or just realize. It’s being expressed from the abusive stages, to failure relationships, to lack of parenting, to the love of my mom. It’s my way to be able to speak out loud and be heard. There’s happy time, to the extreme devastation in the circle of the society life surrounding me. Again writing poetry is my way to express my inner feelings that was locked inside of my soul. It’s away to relax and sooth my mental stages that affects my physical presents. It was a way to say how love, death, reality can motivate or depress my life without me being in control. It was my way to cry on paper and not be afraid of what anyone thinks about the things I have to say because it’s my feeling and my beliefs. I can say the things that men won’t admit to or reject because of taking it personal. It’s a way to express reality and at the same time talk real talk. It was my way to express my sorrow for the systems i.e. educational, welfare, and for the kids of the future in this society. It’s my way of keeping it real with me, and anyone who’s willing to believe what I’m saying. 1st of all I would like to thank the man above because he has watched over me and have protected me through out. I would like to dedicate this poetry book to my wonderful mom (Jeraldine Williams), because without the strength of her for always believing in me none of this would have been possible. So I dedicate this book in behalf of my buddy, my chick, my best friend, my mom. Thank you!

Today more than ever literature and the other arts make use of urban structures – it is in the city that the global and universal joins the local and individual. Babylon or New Jerusalem? Perceptions of the City in Literature draws a map of the concept of the city in literature and represents the major issues involved. Contributions to the volume revisit cities such as the London of Wordsworth, Dorothy Richardson and Virginia Woolf or Rilke’s Paris, but also travel to the politics of power in Renaissance theatre at Ferrara and to deliberate urban erasures in post-apartheid South Africa. The texts represented range from Renaissance plays to contemporary novels and to poetry from various periods, with references to the visual arts, including film. The role of memory in contemplating the city and also specific urban metaphors developed in literature, such as boxing – the square ring – and jazz are also discussed. The transformation of cities by legislation on cemeteries, by lighting or by projects of urban renewal are the subject of articles, while others reflect on images of the city in worlds specifically forged by writers like William Blake and James Thomson. The contributors themselves live and work in many varied cities, thus representing a dynamic and real variety of critical approaches, and introducing a strong theoretical and comparative element.

Past studies have suggested that offenders desist from crime due to a range of factors, such as familial pressures, faith based interventions or financial incentives. To date, little has been written about the relationship between desistance and racialisation. This book seeks to bring much needed attention to this under-researched area of criminological inquiry. Martin Glynn builds on recent empirical research in the UK and the USA and uses Critical Race Theory as a framework for developing a fresh perspective about black men’s desistance. This book posits that the voices and collective narrative of black men offers a unique opportunity to refine current understandings of desistance. It also demonstrates how new insights can be gained by studying the ways in which elements of the desistance trajectory are racialised. This book will be of interest both to criminologists and sociologists engaged with race, racialisation, ethnicity, and criminal justice.

Les nouveaux mystères de Paris (1954-1959), Léo Malet’s fifteen-novel detective series inspired by Eugène Sue’s nineteenth-century feuilleton, almost achieved the goal of setting a mystery in each of the twenty Parisian arrondissements, with Nestor Burma at the center of the action. In Burma, the “détective de choc” first introduced in 1943’s 120 rue de la gare, Malet, considered the “father” of the French roman noir, creates a cultural hybrid, bringing literary references and surrealist techniques to a criminal milieu. Michelle Emanuel’s groundbreaking study is particularly insightful in its treatment of Malet as a pioneer within the literary genre of the French roman noir while making sure to also focus on his surrealist roots. Against the archetypes of Simenon’s Maigret and Christie’s Poirot, Burma is brash and streetwise, peppering his speech with colorful and evocative slang. As the reader’s tour guide, Burma highlights Paris’s forgotten past while providing insight to the Paris of (his) present, referencing both popular culture and contemporary issues. Malet’s innovation of setting a noir narrative in France serves as a catalyst for further change in the policier genre in France, including his contemporary Jean Amila, the néo-polar of Jean-Patrick Manchette, and the historical roman noir of Didier Daeninckx.
