This book presents collective works published in the recent Special Issue (SI) entitled " Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)". These works address problems of mobility, environmental pollution, and road safety, as well as their related applications. The presented problems are complex and involve a large number of research areas and many advanced technologies, such as communication, sensing, and control, which are used for managing a large amount of information. The applications vary and include fleet management, driving behavior, traffic control, trajectory planning, connected vehicles, and energy consumption efficiency. Recent advances in communication technologies are becoming fundamental for the development of new advances in fleet management, traffic control, and connected vehicles. This works collected in this Special Issue propose solution methodologies to address such challenges, analyze the proposed methodologies, and evaluate their performance. This book brings together a collection of multidisciplinary works applied to ITS applications in a coherent manner.

This book includes a selection of articles from the 2018 International Conference on Information Technology & Systems (ICITS 18), held on January 10 – 12, 2018, at the Universidad Estatal Península de Santa Elena, Libertad City, Ecuador. ICIST is a global forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss recent findings and innovations, current trends, lessons learned and the challenges of modern information technology and systems research, together with their technological development and applications. The main topics covered include information and knowledge management; organizational models and information systems; software and systems modeling; software systems, architectures, applications and tools; multimedia systems and applications; computer networks, mobility and pervasive systems; intelligent and decision support systems; big data analytics and applications; human–computer interaction; ethics, computers & security; health informatics; and information technologies in education.

Innovative and smart mobility systems are expected to make transportation systems more sustainable, inclusive, and safe. Because of changing mobility paradigms, transport planning and design require different methodological approaches. Over twelve chapters, this book examines and analyzes Mobility as a Service (MaaS), travel behavior, traffic control, intelligent transportation system design, electric, connected, and automated vehicles, and much more.

Better urban transport systems are needed to achieve a healthier environment and as a result, a wide range of research has originated from many different countries. These studies highlight the importance of innovative systems, new approaches and original ideas, which need to be thoroughly tested and critically evaluated before they can be implemented in practice. To address the need to solve important pollution problems the papers included in this book focus on the relationship with urban transport. There is also a growing need for integration with telecommunications systems and IT applications in order to improve safety, security and efficiency. The variety of topics covered in this volume reflects the complex interaction of the urban transport systems with their environment and the need to establish integrated strategies. The aim is to arrive at optimal socio-economic solutions while reducing the negative environmental impacts of current transportation systems.

This set of two volumes comprises the collection of the papers presented at the 5th International Conference on Maritime Technology and Engineering (MARTECH 2020) that was held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 16 to 19 November 2020. The Conference has evolved from the series of biennial national conferences in Portugal, which have become an international event, and which reflect the internationalization of the maritime sector and its activities. MARTECH 2020 is the fifth of this new series of biennial conferences. The set comprises 180 contributions that were reviewed by an International Scientific Committee. Volume 1 is dedicated to maritime transportation, ports and maritime traffic, as well as maritime safety and reliability. It further comprises sections dedicated to ship design, cruise ship design, and to the structural aspects of ship design, such as ultimate strength and composites, subsea structures as pipelines, and to ship building and ship repair.
